Make sure that every slider is switched on, and check to see if Google Assistant voice commands work. If Google Assistant still doesn't respond to your voice, try rebooting your phone after you have enabled all of the app permissions. If it still doesn't work, make sure that the "OK Google" command is actually enabled. Google Assistant can accept both vocal commands and text commands, so it comes with the option to turn voice commands off.
If you want it to respond to voice commands, you have to make sure that the "OK Google" command is enabled in the settings for your Google app.
Open the Google app, and tap More. Tap Settings. Tap Voice. Make sure that the slider switches for Access with Voice Match and Unlock with Voice Match are both slid to the right. If either switch is slid to the left and grayed out, tap it. You can save some time by tapping Retrain Voice Model at this time and retraining the voice model. Check to see if Google Assistant voice controls work. If it still doesn't respond, retrain the voice model. In some cases, Google Assistant voice commands don't work because Google Assistant just can't understand you. It relies on something called a voice model, which is just a record of you saying "Okay, Google" and "Hey Google" a few times. If the voice model gets corrupted, or it was recorded in a loud area or by a previous owner of your phone, then retraining the model will usually fix your problem.
Here's how to retrain the Google Assistant voice model:. These are the exact same steps you took in the following section to turn on the "Okay Google" command. If you're still on that screen, you can skip this step. Tap Retrain voice model , and enter your PIN or scan your fingerprint if prompted. Tap I agree. Say the indicated phrases when prompted.
Make sure to enunciate each command clearly. You may also want to move to a quiet space if there is a lot of ambient noise, or other people talking, which can have a negative effect on the accuracy of your voice model. If the voice model training session is successful, you will see a screen that says something to that effect.
Tap Finish to complete the process. Check to see if Google Assistant voice commands work. If you're still experiencing trouble, you may have a problem with your Google app. Google Assistant voice commands rely on the Google app to work, so problems with the Google app can result in voice commands not working. In some cases, this type of problem can be rectified by clearing the Google app data and cache.
If that doesn't work, you may need to uninstall Google app updates and return the app to the state it was in when you originally got your phone. In the worst-case scenario, you'll have to wait for Google to provide a fix. Here's how to delete the user data and cache from your Google app, and how to uninstall updates if that option is available on your phone:.

Android smartphones of today feature a dedicated battery-saving mode that kills background processes to make sure you manage to eke as much juice from the battery as possible. An unintended consequence of this is that your Google Assistant and the OK Google command stops working because of this. It is a good idea to check if the battery-saving mode on your phone is on before you blame anything else for OK Google not working. One possible fix to your OK Google not working problem is to ensure that your phone is running the latest version of the Google App.

Only way I got working was connecting to a pc, then turn off, hold power and volume up. Clear Cache and restarted, wait a few minutes and worked ever since, has been months since worked. Thanks for the suggestions. Couldn't get "hey google" to work as before. Turned off battery saving mode and it solved my problem. My only concern is it must have changed during an update, because it used to work with battery saving mode on. All I had to do was uninstall Google from the app store, then you will see that there are updates available.
Don't install the updates and it will work. You will have to enable Google voice again from within the Google settings. These are obvious solutions to the most basic problems. What if it beeps and only listens but the user interface is not showing up?
Have you guys ever encountered that? My phone just started doing this too! About an hour ago. Google answers but no interface showing. The "Hey Google" would respond by voice but the Assistant interface would not pop up. Fixed it by going to the Play Store, searching for the Google app, unchecking the auto update option on the top right corner three dot menu and clicking Uninstall. This does not remove the Google app but only uninstalls the latest update which causes the problem.
Go back to the Voice Match setting and turn it on Just started happening to me as well. Voice trigger only boots up the assistant but no interface. Complies with commands, but only in the background - if I say for instance "hey Google, discord" the app pops up.
The assistant interface only comes up if I long press the home button, no voice activation at all. Faulty update. Before I experienced Android 11, Google Assistant would always pop up after I gave my voice command, but righy after I updated it to Android 11, it only shows "beep" sound without popping up the navigation box.
How to fix it? The exact problem I was looking for yet this guy explains obvious steps like we're just born yesterday. Ronald Larsen thank you for the only response that has actually worked! I saw my last update was from about 5 days ago and had a feeling that was the issue, but I like to give a big name app like Google the benefit of the doubt. My husband had the same issue on his phone newer model than mine but it fixed itself within days, so it really confused us why mine was still messed up.
Thanks again! I checked all the article suggestions, plus some more detailed options, but found nothing strange! My device is Redmi Note 9 Pro. Oh look an instruction guide that basically says "We don't want to actually have to figure out what is wrong with our own software, so lets blame everyone elses I had this problem before and managed to get it working using the instructions suggested by Ronald Larsen.
I have today lost the ability to use this with Android Auto again. I don't hear anything further and the dots just disappear. If I try saying 'OK Google' again there is no response. I am getting really annoyed by this. Luckily I have handsfree in my car anyway so I can just go back to that but voice commands are so much easier. Any further help would be appreciated.
